William Johnson
Manager, Department of Environmental Quality
Bill Johnson is the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for CH2M-WG Idaho, LLC. In this capacity, he provides operational oversight and direction for the workforce in day-to-day activities at the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP).
Mr. Johnson has more than 30 years of nuclear experience, having served since 1973 in a wide variety of management positions with Washington Group International in both DOE and commercial nuclear business segments.
Prior to his position at ICP, Mr. Johnson served as Executive Vice President for Westinghouse Savannah River Company at the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina. In this capacity, he provided executive leadership with the president in the day-to-day operation of the company, in establishing and implementing safe work accomplishment, and in a variety of strategic, contractual, and public involvement responsibilities.
Also at SRS, Mr. Johnson served as Chief Closure Officer, where he directly managed all of SRS’s cleanup work, including waste solidification, high-level liquid waste management and disposition; soil and groundwater cleanup; decommissioning and demolition; nuclear materials and spent fuel consolidation, stabilization and disposition; and site laboratory support to SRS cleanup.
In 2003, Mr. Johnson was recognized as Executive of the Year by the SRS chapter of the National Management Association, and has served in board and leadership positions with a variety of community and civic organizations.
Prior to SRS, he was Executive Vice President of Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear Company, DOE’s M&O contractor for the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, and held a variety of engineering and management positions in projects, nuclear safety, and regulatory management in Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s commercial nuclear business units.
Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Directors (BOD) for the United Way of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County from 1991 to 1994. During this time he chaired the Search Committee; he was a member of the Agency Evaluation Committee; and he was the vice-chair of the BOD. Mr. Johnson served on the BOD for the United Way of Aiken County in South Carolina from 2003 to 2005, where he was vice-chair and chair of the Corporate Gifts Committee. In 2005, Mr. Johnson also served as the Campaign Chair for the United Way of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County.
He and his wife, Pat, have two children.
